One of the very first spelling rules students learn is the doubling of the f, l, s and z in a one syllable word containing a short vowel and ending with the /f/, /l/, /s/ or /z/ sound. There are several little tricks that we teach students to remember to double those consonants and the FLOSS rule is just one. When you download this file you’ll receive the templates and directions for creating your own file folder activity targeting this skill. Simply cut the templates, place them on the file folder, laminate the folder and the word cards and you’ll have a ready-set activity that can be used over and over again. This activity is great for either small group instruction or as an activity for your independent literacy centers.
