When you download the Swish! activity for r-controlled vowels you’ll receive 90 basketballs containing words with r-controlled vowels. To play the game, students take turns picking balls and reading the words. If a player chooses a “Swish!” ball, he/she can choose 3 more balls. If a player chooses a “Penalty” ball, all of the balls must be put back into the pile and play resumes. The player with the most balls at the end of time wins the game. This activity is ideal for either independent centers or as an activity for small group instruction.
